Transportation Services

Although originally designed to meet the needs for medical trips and access to life-sustaining activities, Rooks County Transportation Service now serves the elderly, the handicapped and the general public of Rooks County. The service covers all of Rooks County with transportation provided to Graham County, Phillips County, Osborne County and Ellis County.

Service will be provided normally from curb-to-curb, but door-to-door assistance for those with special needs may be provided at the driver’s discretion. All fleet vehicles are equipped with a wheelchair lift.

Operating funds are partially provided by the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) Section 5311 program, administered by the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT). Rooks County and each of the city’s governments, together with donations from riders and other individuals, provide the funding match, showing our local support.

Scheduling a Ride

To schedule a ride, call Rooks County Health Center at 785-688-4400 between the hours of 8 a.m. – 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. A staff member will help you schedule your ride and may ask you the following pertinent information:

  • Name
  • Address and Zip Code
  • Telephone number or message phone number
  • Do you have special needs or mobility aids (walker, cane, scooter, etc.)?
  • Do you need the driver to bring along a hospital wheelchair?

Rides should be scheduled 48 hours in advance and are accepted on a first-come-first-served basis. Cancellations should also be made as soon as possible but at least 24 hours prior to the scheduled trip. Patrons who consistently cancel their rides after that time or who do not show up for their rides jeopardize their future services.
