Rooks County Health Center has been recognized as one of the Top 20 Critical Access Hospitals in the United States. This is a tremendous honor and distinction that reflects the strength, dedication, and consistency of care provided to our community.
This recognition is awarded by the Chartis Center for Rural Health and the National Rural Health Association (NRHA), based on a comprehensive evaluation of hospital performance. Hospitals are measured across eight key areas, including quality, patient outcomes, patient experience, financial strength, and access to care.
Out of all Critical Access Hospitals nationwide, only 20 receive this honor.
For a rural hospital, this recognition carries special meaning.
“It reflects not only strong performance metrics, but also the ability to deliver high-quality, reliable care close to home,” said RCH CEO Josh Thaden. “In communities like ours, access to healthcare is essential, and being recognized at this level reinforces the importance of local care that patients can trust.”
At RCH, that care is delivered by a team that works together every day across departments. From providers and nurses to support staff and administration, every role contributes to the experience our patients have.
“This recognition is not the result of one department or one initiative,” Thaden said. “It is the result of a shared commitment to doing things the right way, consistently.”
The recognition also highlights the important role rural hospitals play in supporting the health and stability of their communities. While larger facilities may have greater resources or patient volumes, rural hospitals like RCH continue to provide advanced, dependable care close to home for the patients and families who rely on them every day.
Most importantly, this achievement reflects the community itself.
“The trust, support, and relationships built here in Rooks County are what make this level of care possible,” said Thaden. “We are proud to serve this community and grateful for the opportunity to continue providing high-quality care for every generation.”
As RCH continues looking toward the future, this recognition serves as both a celebration of what has been accomplished and a reminder of the commitment to providing exceptional care close to home for the communities we serve.
