At Rooks County Health Center, we are proud to be expanding services that support women’s health in real, meaningful ways. One of the newest services we’re excited to share is pelvic floor therapy, which is a highly specialized treatment that addresses conditions many women experience.
Pelvic floor therapy is helpful in many cases. Whether you’re recovering from childbirth, managing pelvic pain, or experiencing symptoms like urinary urgency, incontinence, or pelvic organ prolapse, you are not alone, and you don’t have to live with the discomfort it can cause.
Pelvic floor therapy can help with:
- Urinary incontinence or urgency
- Slow, weak, or intermittent urine stream
- Feeling of incomplete emptying or straining
- Pelvic organ prolapse
- Pelvic floor pain
- Pregnancy-related issues (before or after birth)
- Post-surgical recovery (such as hysterectomy)
- Sexual dysfunction
- Neurological conditions like multiple sclerosis
- Rehabilitation following cancer treatments
What does pelvic floor therapy involve?
Treatment is always personalized, but may include:
- Exercises to relax or strengthen pelvic floor muscles (like Kegels)
- Manual therapy (sometimes internal) to relieve trigger points and muscle tension
- Biofeedback using sensor probes to monitor muscle activity
- Electrical stimulation to help retrain and activate the pelvic floor
- Self-care education, including diet and lifestyle changes that can assist with improving symptoms
These issues often worsen over time and can affect your comfort, confidence, and overall quality of life. But early treatment can make a world of difference, and help you get back to feeling like yourself!
Meet the Team Behind the Care
This service is led by Rebecca Dreiling, PT, DPT, and Traci Hamel, PTA, who specialize in pelvic floor therapy and bring compassionate, expert care to each session.
Unlike many larger facilities with 6–8 week wait times, RCH can often get you in within days. Plus, this service is made possible thanks to the generosity of the Rooks County Healthcare Foundation and the RCH Auxiliary, who provided the specialized therapy equipment used in treatment.
