In January, Rooks County Health Center officially transitioned to Meditech, our new electronic health record system. This is one of the biggest operational upgrades our hospital has made in years, and while it will ultimately improve care, we want to be very upfront about what patients can expect right now.
The short version:
Your visit may take longer at first.
You’ll need to bring a few things with you.
And yes; it may feel inconvenient in the moment.
But this change is being made for you, and it will make care better, safer, and more connected in the long run.
What Is Meditech?
Meditech is a modern electronic health record system used by hospitals across the country. It allows providers, nurses, clinics, admissions, and rehab services to work from one unified system, improving communication and coordination across your entire care experience.
This upgrade replaces our old system completely, and that means nothing from the old system carries over automatically.
What This Means for Your Next Visit
During the early weeks of Meditech, please expect longer registration times at:
- Clinic check-in
- Admissions
- Rehab services
To help us get you registered correctly, every patient must bring the following on their first visit under Meditech:
- A photo ID
- Your insurance card
Even if you’ve been a patient here for years, even if we “already had it before”, this information must be re-entered into the new system.
We know this can feel frustrating. We know it may feel like a step backward. And we truly understand how disruptive change can be.
Why We’re Asking for Patience
This transition has taken months of preparation, training, testing, and long hours by staff across nearly every department. Our team is learning new workflows while still caring for patients, and that takes time, focus, and grace on all sides.
We kindly ask patients to:
- Arrive a few minutes early to appointments
- Bring photo ID and insurance cards
- Allow extra time for check-in
- Practice patience and kindness with our staff as we work through this transition
Why This Change Is Worth It
While the beginning may feel like a hassle, Meditech brings meaningful improvements, including:
- Better coordination between departments
- Improved access to information for providers
- Fewer errors and clearer documentation
- A new, unified patient portal launching soon
- A more streamlined experience once the system is fully in place
This change positions RCH to continue providing safe, high-quality care for years to come.
We Don’t Want Anyone Caught Off Guard
That’s why we’re sharing this message far and wide. Our goal is simple:
We don’t want anyone walking into the building surprised or frustrated.
We want you to know what to expect, and to know that we truly appreciate your understanding.
Thank You for Supporting Your Local Hospital
Change is hard. But it’s also how we grow.
Thank you for trusting Rooks County Health Center, for supporting our staff, and for walking through this transition with us. We’re confident this upgrade will lead to better care, and we’re grateful to have a community that allows us the grace to get there.
