Rooks County Health Center (RCH) hosted an event on January 28 to thank and honor members of the hospital auxiliary and RCH’s Patient/Family Advisory Council (PFAC) for their volunteer work over the last year. Volunteers were treated to hors d’oeurves and desserts at the RCH Education Center by host RCH’s Senior Leadership.
“We’re proud of all that the auxiliary and PFAC have accomplished in the last year. We are greatly appreciative of their energy and commitment to enhancing health care in Rooks County,” said Eric Sumearll, RCH Communications and Development Director.
According to Sumearll, the 129 members of the Rooks County Health Center Auxiliary (RCHA) provide critical support for patients and their families as well as assisting RCH employees and the hospital itself. RCHA raised an additional $10,000 towards the hospital expansion, for a total of $20,000 raised in three years. RCHA also secured an $8,000 grant from the William H. Andresen Charitable Trust, and then contributed an additional $7,500 from the Auxiliary’s fund to purchase an electronic materials management inventory system for the hospital.
The PFAC is well into its second year of assisting RCH leadership in identifying new ways to assist patients and their families during hospital visits. The council helped streamline the RCH patient satisfaction survey, gave tours of the hospital and is currently working on developing initiatives to promote health education in Rooks County.
In summing up the value of the two organizations to RCH, Sumearll stated, “The volunteers’ commitment to the service of others is crucial to the support of the hospital’s daily operations. We can’t thank them enough for their goodwill and for being such great ambassadors for the hospital.”
The annual Volunteer Appreciation luncheon at RCH will be held on Friday, April 20 at which time the Volunteer of the Year for 2017 will be announced.
