The Rooks County Health Center Auxiliary recently received the Hospital Auxiliaries of Kansas (HAK) “Gold Award of Excellence” on September 6 at the organization’s annual convention held in Wichita, in conjunction with the Kansas Hospital Association’s Annual Convention. This marks the fifth year in a row and the twelfth time out of the last thirteen years that the Auxiliary has brought home gold.
To earn the award, HAK evaluates 21 areas of service, including involvement in health education programs, health related community service, contributions to health career scholarships and other special projects throughout a 12-month period.
“We’re proud of all that the Auxiliary has accomplished in the last year. We are greatly appreciative of their energy and commitment to enhancing health care in Rooks County,” said Eric Sumearll, Communications and Development Director for Rooks County Health Center.
Five auxiliary members, Kathy Ramsay, Diane McReynolds, Kandie Morain, June Mongeau, and Genny Robben-Rahjes, attended the 2019 HAK Convention as representatives of District 5 of the association. Diane McReynolds, Auxiliary President, and AJ Thomas, RCH CEO, accepted the Gold Award which was presented at the final luncheon ceremony. Besides the networking opportunities, and speakers, they also came home with new fundraising ideas to explore in the future.
According to Sumearll, the group of 129 members provides critical support for patients and their families as well as assisting hospital employees. In summing up the value of RCHA, Sumearll stated, “Auxiliary members are committed to the service of others and are crucial to the support of daily operations of the hospital.”
A few of the Auxiliary’s projects over the last year included numerous fund raising events, such as their famous pie sale, Fall Frenzy, hosting a linen sale and the annual memorial Christmas tree lighting. The Auxiliary continues to raise money for the current Phase 2 hospital expansion and provide free CPR training materials to families who have children delivered at the hospital.
The RCH Auxiliary welcomes new members with a $5 annual membership fee or $100 lifetime membership. For more information on becoming an Auxiliary member, please contact Diane McReynolds at (785)-425-8393.
