Rooks County has teamed up with Rooks County Health Center (RCH) to provide a safe and convenient way for county residents to dispose of unused and unwanted drugs.
A medicine drop-off box has been installed inside RCH for the safe disposal of drugs that might otherwise find their way into the wrong hands or end up contaminating ground water in the county.nvenient way for county residents to dispose of unused and unwanted drugs.
The county commission voted in January to use funds provided by the state of Kansas to help acquire the drop box, which can receive prescription and non-prescription medicines. The funds were made available to counties throughout Kansas through a distribution of alcohol sales taxes and are available for drug use mitigation purposes.
The drop off box is located next to the Doctors Without Delay clinic window. The box is available for the disposal of prescription and non-prescription pills, prescription ointments and patches, vitamins and pet medications. Prohibited items are needles, inhalers, lotions or liquids.
The drug drop off box is available for disposing unwanted drugs Monday through Saturday between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.
