To mothers, fathers, family and friends, it’s not just another baby, and the staff at Rooks County Health Center feels the same. The nationally acclaimed facility features two private labor and delivery suites.
Expecting mothers will have a physician onsite throughout their labor and delivery experience and the devotion of the entire hospital staff from doctors and nurses to lab technicians and kitchen staff.
RCH provides individualized care from natural childbirth to cesarean delivery. Parents enjoy a variety of birth plan options catering to their wishes yet capable of providing necessary medical intervention if needed. A number of traditional pain management procedures are available including nitrous oxide, which is credited for reducing anxiety and distancing the mother from labor pain mentally rather than physically.
RCH’s award winning room designs include spacious Labor & Delivery suites accessorized with comfortable foldout beds for visiting family and private Jacuzzi baths for mother. Soothing colors, luxury linens and the privacy afforded by remaining in one room before, during and after delivery, provide immeasurable comfort for mother and child during childbirth.
RCH’s Cocoon Project provides mothers, who deliver at RCH, and up to four additional care providers an Adacel vaccination free of charge. The Adacel vaccination helps support the immune system to fight against Pertussis (whooping cough). RCH Auxiliary also presents parents with the Halo Sleep Sack for the next step in infant safety.
For newborns who need extended care due to jaundice, RCH offers access to a BiliSoft Phototherapy System. The system allows parents to remain home to hold and bond with their baby while he/she is getting the interventional care needed to reduce their jaundice.
RCH’s private Labor & Delivery rooms include an ensuite Jacuzzi for water birthing which encourages an easier birth for mother and a gentler welcome for baby.

Courtesy Doula Service
RCH recognizes the importance of the mother’s emotional support during labor, birth and postpartum. That is why RCH provides courtesy Doula services to patients who deliver at RCH with no out-of-pocket expense. RCH’s doula meets with the mother and her partner prior to the birth to create a birth plan and discuss any preferences, concerns, or needs. Studies indicate with a Doula present at birth, women experience 25% shorter labors, 51% fewer C-sections and results in healthier babies that breastfeed longer. Doula services include:
- Assistance with birth planning
- On-site support throughout labor and delivery
- Helping with breathing techniques
- Positioning assistance
- Offering massages, reassurance and comfort
RCH”s Doula services are limited to a few newborns a month so contact RCH as soon as possible to take advantage of this service.
Courtesy Lactation Services
RCH provides courtesy Lactation Services from a Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC) for mothers who deliver at RCH. Services include prenatal consultations, postpartum assessments during the mother’s hospital stay, as well as support after discharge with no out-of-pocket expense.
At 36 weeks RCH’s CLC provides mothers with a basic overview of breastfeeding including infant feeding patterns, what a correct latch looks like, how to know if the breastfed infant is getting enough, and a breast anatomy assessment if desired. Following delivery, RCH’s CLC provides onsite support making sure the infant has a correct latch and that the mother is not experiencing any pain with feeds.
The first two weeks of breastfeeding tend to be the most challenging. RCH’s CLC offers follow up visits, and for those concerns that arise outside of office hours, RCH provides a 24-hour lactation support hotline.
