Diane McReynolds of Stockton was named the Rooks County Health Center (RCH) Volunteer of the Year at the annual Volunteer Appreciation event held April 25 at Rooks County Health Center. McReynolds is currently serving as the Vice-President of the RCH Auxiliary and is the District 5 Coordinator for Hospital Auxiliaries of Kansas.
JT Plummer, President of VFW Post 8873, John Berkley and Deb Niermeier, President of the VFW Post 8873 Auxiliary, presented McReynolds a plaque in recognition. Seven years ago VFW post 8873 of Stockton asked RCH to help sponsor an annual award for the Volunteer of the Year. The award is named in honor of Elvera Beiker, a long time RCH Auxiliary member with a history of exemplary volunteerism in Rooks County.
McReynolds’ family, including husband Jerry and their children Renee Laird, Michelle Ziegler and Shawn McReynolds made a surprise visit during the awards ceremony. Speaking about her mother’s spirit of volunteerism, Laird said “From a young age, it was apparent her spiritual gifts included the gifts of service and teaching. From her mission work with the Hopi Indians as a teenager, to her work in the United Methodist Church, and in teaching students, she has tirelessly dedicated herself to helping others. She generously gives of her time and talents with a cheerful heart and joyful spirit.”
Laird continued, “Her commitment to RCH goes beyond that of a mere volunteer. As an advocate and champion for RCH, her passion and enthusiasm for this hospital, its people, and the community is contagious and stretches beyond city limits and Kansas state lines. She regularly shares the story with connections of a little rural hospital in Rooks County that could and did.”
RCH welcomes anyone interested in volunteering to contact Eric Sumearll, RCH Director of Communications and Development at 688-4428 or firstname.lastname@example.org. More information about volunteerism can be found online at RooksCountyHealthCenter.com.
